About The Project

The purpose of this project is to develop an online learning experience that supports people of all ages to explore the truths of institutionalization. This project relies on historical evidence, survivor and family insights as well as critical thinking to capture the attention of all learners. The goal is to raise awareness about the experience of institutionalization and the historical consequences of segregation that continue to affect people who have an intellectual disability in Canada today.

The aim is to help inform the next generation of young people to understand the role of institutions in Canadian history and to spark conversations on how this impacts people today. This project will provide insight into the power of perceptions, as well as the role of policy and social change, and the way these influence human lives. Most importantly, it will encourage young Canadians to recognize the importance of citizenship and to appreciate their role in building a more inclusive future.
